Why is it called the “Forbidden City” in China ?

  • The Forbidden City used to be the imperial palace in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and ordinary people were not allowed in without permission. Hence, it was called the “Forbidden City”.
  • It is not forbidden today because it has been transformed into the Palace Museum and opened to the public. Tourists can visit it.
