Whistler’s Mother is an icon for motherhood and filial devotion. James Abbott McNeill Whistler (1834-1903) painted the portrait of his mother Anna Matilda Whistler in 1871. Whistler’s mother is one of the most famous paintings in history. He produced over 500 paintings : The Falling Rocket (1877) – The White Girl (1862) – Old Battersea Bridge (1875) – The Peacock Room (1877).
