Edvard Munch

  • Edvard Munch (1863-1944) was a Norwegian painter and printmaker.
  • He is widely known for his iconic pre-Expressionist painting “The Scream” (“The Cry”, 1893).
  • The Munch Museum, Oslo, Norway holds 1,100 paintings, 4,500 drawings, and 18,000 prints.
  • His famous paintings : Madonna (1895), The Sick Child (1885), The Dance of Life (1900)
  • “The Scream” is one of the most recognizable works in the history of art.
  • In May 2012, Munch’s “The Scream” went on the auction block, selling at Sotheby’s in New York for more than $119 million.
